Normally, you would rent a good car for the sake of driving yourself around the city in a sweet ride. The idea of renting a driver to go with it seems a bit excessive (if not a little embarrassing). Why would you pay extra for a chauffeur when you might as well just spend that money on taxis?
Well, the truth is that there are certainly scenarios where renting a driver with a car is both warranted and also cost-effective. Here are just three of the most common:
1. You are new to the city (and you are not alone).
If it is your first time in any new city, then it is definitely wiser to get someone who knows their way around in a car. A good driver not only knows where to go, but also what roads are likely to have traffic at certain times of the day and maybe even some good places to check out.
This goes especially when you have company. Simply going around together without a clue on where to go could make the trip less enjoyable (and needlessly expensive if you keep refueling).
Getting a driver with your rental car can allow you to get the most value, because you have the freedom to ride where you need to go for your entire stay. And if anything else, renting a driver at least once will give you some idea on how to make your own way around should you ever decide to start driving the rental yourself.
2. You have a PWD.
If you have a PWD around, then it would be better to err on the side of caution and accompany them as a passenger. Even in the event that you know the city to drive on your own, it can still be a hassle because you need to keep an eye on them and on the road.
There is also the possibility of having medical emergencies. Even the most minor ones can really spoil an itinerary if you do not know where to get to the nearest clinic, pharmacy or emergency room.
Other things to consider would be places that may not entirely be PWD friendly. If there are certain spots around town that would be difficult for certain disabilities, then having a driver can at least serve as an extra pair of hands.
3. You are meeting someone out of the city.
Finally, there is always a chance that you are meeting someone and they may not even be within the city proper. That extra layer of unfamiliarity is already plenty enough reason to rent a car with a driver.
But if you still need another reason, then it should be pointed out that taxis and other forms of public transportation may not necessarily be available for such trips. There is a risk that you could spend hours looking at unfamiliar maps, or trying to locate your friend’s place via Google.
On the other hand, there are rental services that come with their own driver and have rates for operating outside the city. It is less of a hassle to simply factor these services into your budget and save yourself a lot of time.
