Kawasan Falls – Three Rules That Still Haven’t Changed

Jul 21, 2021 | Moalboal

During the peak of the COVID-19 crisis, one of the most badly affected areas in Cebu included the many seaside and nature resort communities in Moalboal. These places were not just at risk of the coronavirus itself, but they also took a serious economic blow from the travel restrictions and various quarantine periods.

Despite this, you may have heard that many popular destinations still stand today, including the famous Kawasan Falls. Before you start planning your trip though, it is important to remember that some of its past rules still apply.

These are:

1. No smoking and no outside food.

Remember, Kawasan is still a nature resort and preserving nature will always be part of its values. That is why things like smoking and bringing in outside food are still prohibited for clear reasons. This is to minimize air pollution in the area, while reducing the possibility of littering in other areas of the resort.

Of course, one can still have food served from the resort’s own little diner, but even that cannot be brought beyond the second bridge. If you are keen on going to higher levels of the falls, then it is best to just have a big bite to eat before your visit.

2. Weekly maintenance is still in effect.

First-timers to Kawasan sometimes underestimate just how big the entire resort area is. It includes not only the main waterfall area, but also the smaller waterfalls further up, as well as the renowned canyoneering path.

Given this large area, it is hardly surprising that caretakers still need to close the resort for one day every week to make sure that everything remains pristine.

Remember, their responsibility is not just mere cleanliness. They have to preserve the environmental integrity of the falls. Tourists who visit must be mindful that this is still quite a delicate ecosystem, and many developers want to make sure it remains intact for future generations.

3. Booked tours and visits are still best.

For now, the resort is still limited to taking in a maximum of five guests with two guides. But even before these restrictions, it was still highly advisable to book any sort of in-depth trip to the falls.

That much really has not changed. The resort has many beautiful nature spots, but that also means there are hazards that could trip up the unfamiliar backpacker. Instead of dropping by spontaneously just to swim around the falls, try to make the most of your time by planning to explore the whole area and arrange a tour for the entire day.

This not only gets your group a couple of guides to keep you safe, but also all the freedom to swim, explore and enjoy every part of Kawasan to its fullest.

On a final note, life at the falls has certainly become quieter, less crowded and more serene. If that sounds like the perfect weekend getaway, then maybe book a ride with some friends there when you have the chance!
